The Value of Rest

Taking a break from training can often feel like a tough decision, especially when you’ve been consistently putting in the work. The idea of stepping away from the routine might bring feelings of guilt or doubt—after all, aren’t we supposed to be training hard to achieve our goals? But it’s important to remember that the true value of running lies not just in the frequency or intensity of your workouts, but in the mindfulness and discipline you cultivate within yourself.

Taking a step back and reflecting on your goals, motivations, and current physical and mental state is essential. It's in these moments of pause that you can truly assess where you are and how to move forward with purpose. Rest and recovery are often just as vital as the work itself. In fact, giving yourself the permission to take time off can lead to greater growth and progress in the long run—physically, mentally, and emotionally.

It’s important to embrace the challenge of stepping away from your routine. Use this time to nurture other areas of your life: relationships, hobbies, and personal growth.

Chase your dreams, but don’t forget to embrace the moments with those who make you whole.

So, use your time wisely, both on and off the trail. Every decision, whether it’s to train or to rest, should be guided by wisdom, reflection, and purpose.

Taking time off from structured training can actually be incredibly rejuvenating. It allows you to come back fresh and more ready to tackle the next big goal. And, more importantly, it often reminds me of how much I love the trail community—the friendships, shared experiences, and the mission we all strive for together.

So, don’t fear taking that break. Instead, see it as an opportunity to reset, reflect, and renew your passion for what lies ahead. When you return, you’ll do so with a clearer mind, a stronger body, and a greater sense of purpose.
